Lexicarry offers a fun, active, conversational approach to language learning. It is a book of wordless pictures designed to help learners build vocabulary and conversation skills in any second language using the American English word list in the book, a bilingual dictionary, one of the Lexicarry word lists, and/or someone who knows the language.

The book has 142 pages of full-color drawings illustrating functional language and vocabulary in 190 situational and topical contexts. This amounts to over 4500 everyday words and expressions. The pictures make conversation and interactive learning easy.

Unlike standard "picture dictionaries," Lexicarry stimulates talk, lots of talk, while learners build their speaking skills and learn vocabulary.

Although learners can use Lexicarry working on their own, they learn best by discussing the objects, places, and activities in the drawings, working together in pairs, as a class, or with a tutor or native speakers. The illustrations are not labeled, and this naturally challenges and excites the students' imaginations and helps them retain the language. The brilliant colors and often humorous drawings add to the fun of working with Lexicarry.

Dr. Moran has written two guides suggesting a great many learning activities which will make Lexicarry effective and easy-to-use. Both are available on this website for free. Introduction for the learner is a brief and practical learnerís guide. Click here to see the guide, which is also printed in the book. Learning and Teaching with Lexicarry is a more detailed guide with ideas to help tutors and teachers, as well as more advanced learners. Click here or in the list of links above to open it.

The best way to appreciate and understand how Lexicarry works and why it is so effective is to look at some of the pages. Here are sample materials from each of the seven sections of the book::
