To Set Them Free
 The facing page format, with English on the
left and Turkish on the right, is designed to make comparison easy for
students of either English or Turkish.This biography is the first to treat the
whole life of Atatürk. It gives particular attention to his formative
years, his childhood and early military career, since this period is not
as well known as his career as the great reformer and founder of the modern
Turkish state. Research, which took over 25 years, included
work in government and family archives and extensive interviews with people
who had known Atatürk at all periods from childhood on.34 rare photographs and portraits, several
reproduced from the originals. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk rose from a humble
childhood to become one of the most courageous and significant leaders
of the 20th Century.
