Cue Cards:
Nations of the World by: Raymond C. Clark and Anna Mussman
Pro Lingua's two books of Cue Cards give your students the basis for active and interesting role play conversations. Role playing in the ESL/EFL classroom is a traditional way of getting our students "out of themselves" and talking with each other. We give the student a cue, instructions about the role they are to play, and then let them act out the situation. Famous Women of the 20th Century gives each student one of 40 biography cue cards on some of the strongest, most successful and inspiring individuals of this last hundred years. The cards are taken out of the book, and mounted on colored paper and laminated if you like - that way they will last for years. Each student reads a biography and then takes on the role of the woman described in a variety of creative activities that are explained in the book. The women chosen come from 18 different countries. They are (or were) scientists, writers, business tycoons, and national leaders. The students will get good practice and gain some interesting insights while they talk. They will also work on their reading and skimming skills. Nations of the World Each cue card gives information on one of the 42 most populous nations of the world. The students role play being from one of the countries in 10 varied activities suggested in the book. Information on the country is given not in sentences but as data on a chart. The chart on all the countries follows the same format, so students know what information everyone has. Using the cue card, they ask questions, creating the whole language. In the process of role play discussion, they are also learning fascinating information about geography, economics, and the cultures of the various countries. Back to Top
